Jeff Butler, Superintendent of Richmond State Hospital

I welcome you to our website of The Richmond State Hospital. I trust that you will find this a user friendly site, easy to navigate and most importantly one that gives you an inside view of what we do. I am extremely proud of our great heritage, our history of offering quality care in an excellent treatment setting. We have a beautiful campus, ample recreational opportunities for exercise, expression of music and art and excellent staff to provide those activities. I am most proud of our continued use of evidence based practices such as Psycho educational groups, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and Stages of Change. We are most noted for our approach and treatment for those individuals with a dual diagnosis in substance abuse and a mental illness. The staff uses an Integrated Dual Diagnosis Treatment approach where we treat both disorders simultaneously rather than separately. We have recently had staff trained in the Matrix Model for of treatment of Methamphetamine. We continue to be involved with our partners in the mental health field in our efforts to respond timely to calls about admissions and doing our very best to answer those questions and the demands for services. Although this varies by the type of treatment, generally the average length of stay for adults admitted is 110-120 days. The young men who are admitted to the Adolescent unit the average length of stay is over 180 days. Our most recent commitment is toward our goal toward the implementation of a Recovery based model of care. With the help of our two peer specialists leading the way, and by conducting classes in WRAP(Wellness Recovery Action Planning) we hope to provide the necessary support and training for consumers to achieve success in the future adventures as they plan to leave the hospital. We shall continue to work to improve what we do and with your help and support we will accomplish that goal. Certainly, we welcome any comments you have, questions or suggestions.

Thanks for your interest in Richmond State Hospital and if there is anything that I can do to assist you, feel free to email me or contact me directly.

Sincerely,
Jeff Butler, Superintendent
